Ghost Chatter Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 11, 2026
Introduction
Ghost Chatter LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("Ghost Chatter," "we," "our," or "us"), respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our ghost hunting companion app on iOS and Android (the "App"), including Ghost Chatter Network, our in-app platform for live and on-demand video, chat, and community features.
YouTube API Services. Ghost Chatter uses YouTube API Services (for example, for live streaming and live chat to your YouTube channel). By using those features, you are also subject to the Google Privacy Policy. Use of YouTube API Services is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service.
Who Is Responsible for Your Data
Ghost Chatter LLC is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We are located in the United States (State of Michigan). The primary contact for privacy questions and requests is info@ghostchatterapp.com. If you need a postal address for legal or regulatory correspondence, email the same address and we will provide it.
Information We Collect
We collect and process the following data, depending on how you use the App.
User Account Information
- Username: Automatically generated usernames or custom usernames you choose
- Email Address: Used when you register with email and password, when required for custom username recovery, or when you provide a contact email (for example, in a verification application). Sign in with Apple may provide a private relay email or no email, depending on your Apple ID settings
- Sign-in Data: Your sign-in method (email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Google sign-in) and the identifier that provider gives us. We do not store your password in readable form, and we never receive your Apple or Google password
- User ID: Unique identifier generated for your account
- Account Creation Date: When you first used the App and when you completed registered account setup
- Terms Acceptance: When you accepted the terms covering live and user-generated content features
- Verification Status: Whether your account has been verified or holds program badges
- Profile Fields You Choose to Provide: Bio, social links, profile photo, avatar, and similar optional profile data
- Date of Birth and Age Status: The date of birth you enter at sign-up (or when asked to confirm your age), whether your account is 18+ verified or a watch-only (13–17) account, and the date the watch-only limits end (your 18th birthday)
- Parent/Guardian Permission Record (13–17 only): that permission was confirmed, when, and the app platform, device identifier and IP address used at that moment. We do not ask for the parent's or guardian's name or contact details
- Age-Gate Device Record: If someone on a device enters an age under 13, or 13–17, we keep a record linked to that device identifier so the age cannot be changed afterwards to get around the rules
Session and Usage Data
- Session History: Questions asked, timestamps, session duration, and responses
- Session Types: Chatter, Estes, Isolation, Spirit Box, Oracle, and other session modes used
- Equipment Usage: Custom equipment configurations and usage tracking
- Voice Preferences: Selected voices and voice settings
- App Usage Statistics: Session completion rates, time spent in app, features used

Ghost Chatter Network Data
When you use Ghost Chatter Network (for example, watching or broadcasting live streams, guesting or co-hosting, replays, Encounter short videos and community clips, live chat, audience questions, comments, likes, follows, discovery feeds, or direct messages), we and our service providers process:
- Live and Uploaded Video: Video and audio you broadcast or upload, thumbnails, titles, captions, hashtags, the video type and location labels you choose, durations, timestamps, visibility and moderation status
- Chat, Comments, and Audience Questions: Text you send in live chat, comments (including video replies to comments), highlighted chat, and questions you submit during live streams (including whether they were selected or read aloud)
- Direct Messages: Message content and conversation details (participants, read status, message requests, and your direct message privacy settings)
- Interaction Data: Likes, follows, blocks, reports, poll votes, memberships, Gifts, and similar signals used to run community and discovery features
- Viewing Data: Which lives, replays, and clips signed-in users watch and for how long, used for recommendations, viewer counts, creator analytics, and leaderboards. A list of videos you recently watched may also be kept on your device
- Automated Content Scanning Results: When you upload a video, still frames from the video and its caption are checked by an automated moderation service, and the result is stored with the video
- Technical and Operational Data: IP address, device and connection information needed to connect streams, measure quality, prevent abuse, and keep the service secure
Live and uploaded video is processed by our video providers so viewers can watch it. This is separate from investigation sessions and recordings you only keep on your device.
Live Streaming and Connected Accounts
- Streaming Preferences: Stream settings, chat integration preferences, scheduled lives, and stream history
- Connected Streaming Accounts (only if you connect them): If you connect YouTube, Twitch, or Facebook to simulcast, we process your account identifier and channel or page name, access tokens, stream settings, and chat or comments from that platform so they can be shown alongside in-app chat. We do not receive your password for those services
- YouTube API Services Data: We use YouTube API Services to create and manage live broadcasts, stream video to your YouTube channel, and display and moderate live chat. Authentication is handled by Google via OAuth. This data is used only to operate the YouTube-related features
For issues related to live streams, contact live@ghostchatterapp.com.

- Ad Performance Data: Ad load success/failure rates (for app improvement)
Data We Do Not Collect
- Your payment card details for App Store or Google Play purchases (these are handled by Apple or Google)
- Precise GPS location (Oracle sensor data is processed locally and not transmitted). If you add location labels or descriptions to your content, that is content you provide
- Audio, photos, or videos from your device, unless you record, save, upload, or stream them
- Biometric data
- Health data
Local sessions and Ghost Chatter Network are different. Many investigation sessions and recordings stay on your device unless you choose to upload or stream them. When you go live or upload to Ghost Chatter Network, your audio, video, and related information are sent to and processed on our and our service providers’ systems.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used to:
- Save Session History: Store your investigation sessions, questions, and responses locally

- Track Progress: Level progression, achievement unlocking, challenge completion
- Operate Accounts: Create and secure registered accounts and apply the correct account type for your age
- Enable Features: Premium voice access, custom username recovery, Ghost Chatter Network, direct messages, leaderboards, Haunting Season, notifications, and Oracle functionality

- Safety and Compliance: Enforce age requirements, moderate content (including automated scanning of uploads), investigate abuse and fraud, preserve child-safety evidence, and comply with legal obligations
Automated Decisions and Ranking
We do not use solely automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Discovery feeds, suggestions, and leaderboards use algorithms and published point rules. Automated scanning may mark an upload as sensitive or hide it until our team reviews it, but it does not by itself ban or restrict an account; account decisions involve human review and are governed by our Terms of Use.

Each third-party service has its own privacy policy and data handling practices. We may add or replace service providers as the App evolves; when we do, we will update this policy and its "Last Updated" date where the change is material.
Advertising and Ad Networks
How Ads Work
- We use Google AdMob to deliver ads in our app; on Android, AdMob may also fill ads from Unity Ads and Meta Audience Network
- For users under 18 (by the date of birth provided, or a watch-only account), ads are requested as non-personalized, marked as for users under the age of consent, and limited to content suitable for teens
- Ads help support the free version of our app
Data Collected by Ad Networks
Ad networks may collect:
- Device identifiers (IDFA, Android advertising ID)
- IP address
- Device information (model, OS version)
- Ad interaction data (views, clicks)
- General location (country/region level)
Your Ad Privacy Options
- iOS: Control tracking with App Tracking Transparency (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking) and Apple Advertising settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising)
- Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads (on some devices, Settings > Google > Ads) to reset or delete your advertising ID; menu names vary by device and Android version
- Opt-Out of Personalized Ads: Most ad networks provide opt-out mechanisms in their privacy policies
Rewarded Ads
- When you watch rewarded ads, ad networks may collect data about the ad interaction
- This data is used to deliver relevant ads and measure ad performance
- Rewarded ads are optional and only shown when you choose to watch them
Your Rights and Controls
Data Access and Control
You have the right to:
- Access Your Data: View stored session data, preferences, and profile information in the App
- Delete Session History: Clear individual sessions or all session data
- Clear Cache: Remove voice cache, image cache, and other cached data
- Update Information: Change username, email, profile fields, and preferences. Your date of birth cannot be changed in the App once it is saved; if it is wrong, contact info@ghostchatterapp.com
- Export Data: Request a copy of your data by contacting info@ghostchatterapp.com
- Delete Custom Word Banks: Remove custom word categories and words you've created
- Delete Oracle History: Clear detection history and generated images
Privacy Controls
- Account Recovery: Enable/disable email-based recovery for custom usernames
- Leaderboard Participation: Opt out of leaderboard visibility where the App provides that control
- Direct Messages: Control who can message you through direct message privacy settings
- Premium Features: Control premium feature usage
- Notifications: Manage notification preferences in the App and in your device settings
- Ad Preferences: Limit ad tracking through iOS or Android settings
- Oracle Settings: Control sensor sensitivity and word bank usage
- Connected Accounts: Disconnect YouTube, Twitch, or Facebook at any time
- Sign Out Everywhere: Sign out of your account on all of your devices from account settings
Data Deletion
- Local Data: Clear all app data through iOS Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Ghost Chatter > Delete App; on Android, Settings > Apps > Ghost Chatter > Storage > Clear storage, or uninstall the app. Deleting the App does not delete your account
- Account Deletion (in the app): You can permanently delete your Ghost Chatter account in the app on iOS and Android. Go to Profile Settings > Account > Delete account. We ask you to confirm before anything is deleted, and you may need to sign in again on your device first. If you are a creator with unpaid earnings and no payout account set up, we ask you to confirm a second time that you want to give up those earnings. Account deletion cannot be undone
- What Account Deletion Removes: Your profile (including your username, bio, profile photo, avatar, and date of birth), your followers and the accounts you follow, direct messages you sent, your comments, likes, and saved videos, and your videos and community clips (which are taken off Ghost Chatter Network and deleted from our video provider). We also remove your notifications, push notification tokens, linked Apple or Google sign-in, and connected platform tokens, hide your past live streams from your profile, cancel your memberships, and sign you out on all of your devices. Where your past activity still appears to other people (for example, in their direct message threads), it is shown as "Deleted Ghost Chatter user"
- Ghost Tokens, Creator Earnings, and Memberships: Any Ghost Tokens left in your wallet are forfeited when you delete your account. If you are a creator with unpaid earnings and no payout account set up, those earnings are forfeited; if you have a payout account set up, earnings you have already made are paid out on the normal schedule. Memberships you pay for are cancelled and will not renew. If you are a creator, memberships fans hold with you stop renewing, and fans do not receive a refund for the current membership period
- What We Keep After Account Deletion: We keep payment and transaction records (for example, purchase, Ghost Token, gift, membership, and payout records) as required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. We also keep safety and enforcement records (such as bans, restrictions, reports, and moderation logs), child-safety evidence as described below, and a record that the account was deleted. If your account was banned for violating our Terms of Use, we may keep device and IP identifiers linked to it to enforce the ban. Copies in backups are purged as described in the Deletion Timeline below
- Account Deletion by Email: If you can't access the app, you can ask us to delete your account by contacting info@ghostchatterapp.com. We may need to verify that the account belongs to you
- Cloud Data: Deleting your account in the app removes the cloud data described above. For other cloud-stored data, contact info@ghostchatterapp.com to request deletion
- YouTube/Google Data: To revoke Ghost Chatter's access to your YouTube/Google account, go to Google Account – Third-party apps with account access, find Ghost Chatter, and remove access. You can also sign out of YouTube in the App or uninstall the App
- Ad Network Data: Contact individual ad networks or use their opt-out mechanisms
Children's and Teens' Privacy
- Under 13. Ghost Chatter is not directed to children under 13 and they may not use it. If you enter an age under 13, you cannot create an account and we keep only a device-level record that the age check was not passed (no account is created). If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it, except for information we must keep for child-safety or legal reasons as described below.
- 13 to 17 (watch-only accounts). Teens aged 13–17 may use a watch-only account only with a parent's or guardian's permission. Watch-only accounts can watch and browse, report and block; they cannot chat, comment, like, follow, message, go live, upload, buy anything, earn rewards or appear on leaderboards, so they do not publish content to other users beyond basic profile information. Watch-only accounts do not appear in viewer lists, search, suggestions or leaderboards, show only a limited profile to others, and cannot be followed. We do not use teens' information for targeted advertising: ads shown to users under 18 are requested as non-personalized, marked as for users under the age of consent, and limited to teen-appropriate content. We do not sell teens' information.
- Turning 18. When a watch-only account holder turns 18 according to the date of birth provided, the account automatically gets full access.
- Parents and guardians may contact info@ghostchatterapp.com to ask about, review, or delete their teen's account information.
- Note: The App contains paranormal-themed content and user-generated live content that may not be suitable for younger users. We recommend parental supervision for users under 18.
Child Safety, Reports and Evidence Preservation
- Reports. When you report content or an account, we store the report, the reason, and a snapshot of the reported content and its context (for example, the reported comment or video details, recent messages between you and the reported account, or the live chat text you included) so our team can review it even if it is later edited or deleted. For reports or safety concerns about live streams (including live chat), you can also contact live@ghostchatterapp.com.
- Evidence preservation. When content or an account is removed because of a child-safety concern, we hide the content from everyone and disable public playback, but we keep a private copy of the content and related records (account information, videos and their metadata, comments, direct messages and chat context, reports, and device and network identifiers such as IP addresses). These copies are accessible only to authorized Ghost Chatter administrators; every view and export is logged.
- How long. Child-safety evidence is kept for at least 365 days from when it was preserved, and longer if it is subject to a legal hold (for example, a law-enforcement request or ongoing investigation). After 365 days it is reviewed by an authorized administrator, who decides whether to keep it longer or release it; it is never deleted automatically. This applies even if the account is deleted.
- Disclosure. We report apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and may disclose preserved information to NCMEC and to law enforcement as required or permitted by law (including 18 U.S.C. §§ 2258A and 2702).

- Preferences: Stored until changed or app uninstalled
- Oracle Data: Custom word banks and detection history stored until deleted
- Generated Images: Stored in your photo library until you delete them

- Age status and parent/guardian permission record: Kept while the account exists and for as long as needed to show that the age rules were applied (for example, after deletion, for the period needed to respond to a legal claim).
- Age-gate device records: Kept to prevent the age check being bypassed on the same device; staff can clear a record made by mistake.
- Child-safety evidence: At least 365 days, then administrator review before any deletion; longer under legal hold; never deleted automatically (see Child Safety, Reports and Evidence Preservation).
Deletion Timeline
- Immediate deletion for local data when requested
- In-app account deletion: processed when you confirm it in the app
- Cloud data deletion requested through support: within 30 days of a verified request
- Backup data purged within 60 days
- Ad network data deletion subject to individual network policies
International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection rules than your own. This includes:

- Data transfers to Apple and Google for sign-in, purchases, push notifications, and crash reporting
- Data transfers to Google AdMob and, on Android, Unity Ads and Meta Audience Network
- Data transfers to Stability AI for image generation and ElevenLabs for voice synthesis
Where required by law (for example, for transfers from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to the United States), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or other mechanisms permitted by applicable law, together with technical and organizational measures.
Changes to Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Posting the updated policy in the app
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending notifications for significant changes (if you have notifications enabled)

Legal Basis for Processing (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing your personal data include:
- Consent: For optional features, ad personalization, and data collection where we ask for it
- Contract Performance: For core app functionality and Ghost Chatter Network, according to our Terms of Use
- Legitimate Interest: For app improvement, security, abuse prevention, and ad delivery (balanced against your rights)

California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended (CPRA), including to:
- Know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect and how we use them

- Correct inaccurate personal information (including date of birth)
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, where applicable
- Limit use of sensitive personal information where required by law
- Not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights
Sale and sharing: We do not sell your personal information for money. Advertising in the App (through Google AdMob and its mediation partners) may use identifiers that California law treats as a "sale" or "sharing" in some circumstances. You can limit ad tracking or reset advertising identifiers through your device settings. We do not sell or share the personal information of users we know are under 18.
Sensitive personal information: We use date of birth only for age eligibility, safety, and compliance, not for advertising. Identity documents for creator payouts are collected by Stripe, not by us.
To exercise these rights, contact us at info@ghostchatterapp.com. We will verify your request as required by law. You may designate an authorized agent in writing where permitted.
